What is the blue card CSCS?
The blue CSCS card is a Level 2 CSCS card – also commonly referred to as the Skilled Worker Blue CSCS Card. It is essentially proof of your competency at your selected trade within the construction industry.
Can anyone get a CSCS card?
CSCS cards are open to all construction professionals. To be granted a CSCS card – you’ll have to pass relevant tests, demonstrate a level of skill and competency at your job role. The CSCS card scheme is widely used in the UK. Most construction sites will require a valid and up to date CSCS card in order to be granted access and the permission to work at a construction site.
How do I apply for blue CSCS card?
According to the official site of the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) – you must meet certain criteria in order to be considered and make an application for a blue CSCS card:
- Achieved a level 2 construction related NVQ (or SVQ course if you’re based in Scotland).
- Or have completed a suitable apprenticeship such as an Employer sponsored apprenticeship, a City and Guilds of London Institute Craft Certificate, or a CSCS Approved Trailblazer.
- Applicants must have also successfully passed the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test within the last 2 years at the relevant level for the occupation which is being applied for.
How long is the blue CSCS card valid for?
Typically, five years. It will depend on the type of card that you’re applying for. It is also worth noting that you can only renew your CSCS card six months prior to the expiry date and up to six months after the expiry date.
What happens if I fail my CSCS test?
Simply get in touch with us by calling 0333 344 7657 to discuss renewal options. You may be able to book another CSCS test after 24 hours of the initial test. Typically, you have to wait 48 hours after your initial test time before you’re able to sit another CSCS test.
Can you do your CSCS card test online?

Can I just keep working without a CSCS card?
It is not a legal requirement to hold a valid and up to date CSCS card. It will depend on the client or principal contractor who is responsible for the construction site you’ll be working at. Most UK construction sites will require a valid and up to date CSCS card before you’re allowed on site.
Can I work while waiting for my CSCS card?
If you have proof that you’ve passed all relevant tests and that your CSCS card is on its way to you – most construction sites in the UK will be ok with you working at a site whilst you wait for your CSCS card to arrive. To eliminate all doubts and to give you peace of mind, ensure to double check with the principal contractor or client who is responsible for the site before you start working at the site (CSCS Exams).
What is the average salary for a CSCS card holder?
According to statistics stemmed from UK Talent – the average salary for a CSCS card holder is £20,477 per year or £10.50 per hour. Entry level positions start at £17,550 per year while most experience workers make up to £32,578 per year.
