It’s mandatory for every tradesman to own a CSCS Card relevant to their trade. No card means no entry on site. It’s that simple.
When it comes to getting the CSCS Card, all you’ll need to do is find out the right card based on your level (whether you’re a trainee, manager etc.) qualifications (whether it’s an NVQ or a degree), pass the relevant CSCS Test and the card is yours. Yes, it’s that simple.
There are 14 CSCS Cards and 3 CITB Health, Safety & Environment tests overall and it might get a little confusing to find out which is the card and test right for you. If you feel this way, then you’re at the right place.
Let’s explain the journey to get a CSCS Card from scratch:
First things first, find out the CSCS Card suitable to your qualification/expertise and the CITB Health, Safety & Environment Test required to get the card you want. For example. If you’re a manager with an NVQ Level 5 in a construction related qualification, you’ll be eligible for a CSCS Black Manager Card, and you’ll need to take a CITB Health, Safety & Environment Test for Managers & Professionals.
So you’ve decided that you want a CSCS Black Managers Card, now it’s time to take the CITB Health, Safety & Environment Test for Managers & Professionals. The 45-minute touchscreen test consists of 50 questions, of which you need to score 42/50 to pass. Here’s a little, but priceless tip for you: Over 90% of tradesmen who buy the revision material (DVD or a book) pass first time, so make sure you get your hands on some revision material to give you a greater chance of passing the test and getting your card
